Artist Pauline Lindberg
Born in 1966 and raised in New York City, I relocated to Sweden in 1980, first settling in Småland before living in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Helsingborg. Today I live and work in Hjärnarp, just outside Ängelholm, where my studio is situated on the farm I call home.
I have worked as a full-time artist since 2016, and my paintings and sculptures are held in private and corporate collections around the world.
In Sweden, I am represented by Gallery Hammar in Stockholm and Gallery Backlund in Gothenburg.
Working primarily on a large scale, I create abstract paintings in acrylic and mixed media on linen, alongside original sculptures in acrylic resin, concrete, epoxy, metals, clay, and found objects. Several of my larger mixed media sculptures are on display throughout the park-like garden surrounding my studio, which is open to visitors year-round by appointment.
Artist Statement
There are no rules in my work, no predetermined forms, no fixed formats. Every piece is a unique and deeply personal narrative. What unites them is their origin: a place of optimism, curiosity, and forward momentum. Playful yet raw, tactile and richly layered, the works invite multiple interpretations and offer different perspectives on reality.
My practice is deeply influenced by my own life, personal encounters, current events, and my immediate surroundings, especially the woodlands where I live, which continue to shape both my imagination and my visual language.
I have always been driven to carve my own path, and that determination is woven into every painting. Asymmetrical houses, expressive lines, and structures leaning in different directions reflect the inner self—constantly evolving, reaching upward, and moving forward. Imperfections and raw, unpolished surfaces speak of a life fully lived, where every experience leaves its mark. Recurring motifs such as houses, ladders, windows, and doors become symbols of possibility, inviting the viewer to imagine the countless paths that lie ahead.
Experimentation has always been an essential part of my artistic practice. From one such exploration emerged HER MESS HANDBAGS a sculptural illuminated series created from acrylic, resin, and carefully selected found objects. Every work is a one-of-a-kind original with its own narrative.
Blending humor with subtle wordplay, the series transforms the handbag into a metaphor for our inner world: personal, chaotic, precious, and deeply intimate. Each piece holds fragments of memory, dreams, emotions, and traces of the places and encounters that become part of who we are.
The first collection was introduced in 2024, followed by a second edition in 2025 that sold out worldwide. A new collection is currently in development and will be released in autumn 2026.
